New Orleans trombonist and Yamaha artist Harry Watters serves with the Army Blues Jazz Ensemble in Washington, DC. His latest solo CD, The Island of Dr. Trombone, features music of the Caribbean. Harry’s previous recordings include Centaur Records ‘S’Wonderful: The Music of George Gershwin with arranger and conductor William Grimes, and Summit Records’ Brothers and Brothers II with trumpeter Ken Watters.
A native of Huntsville, Alabama, Harry grew up in a musical family. His mother Judy was a hornist with the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra for many years and Harry, Sr. was a talented drummer and vocalist. Harry’s brother Ken, also a Yamaha artist, is an award-winning trumpeter who performs throughout the southeast.
After graduation from the University of North Texas, Harry Watters spent four years touring and recording with the Dukes of Dixieland. While working at night on Bourbon Street, he attended the University of New Orleans by day, serving as a graduate assistant to professor Ellis Marsalis. Currently, Harry Watters is a DMA candidate at Louisiana State University. In addition, he performs regularly with the world-renowned Mickey Finn Show.
